Library
Constructed along with the establishment of
Capital Normal University, the library has become a sizeable
and comprehensive municipal-level library of key university
through 40 years' development. It serves as a document and
information center and an academic organ to offer service
for teaching and scientific research. It performs collection,
processing, storage and transmission of documents and information,
and it is also a supplement to reference rooms of each department
or college. They jointly provide services for teaching and
scientific research, and offer protection to those documents
and references. Construction of the library is closely connected
to subject arrangement, teaching and scientific research,
while collection complies with fundamental theoretical documents,
teaching reference documents, scientific research reference
documents and reference books concerned with subjects. Documents
in library had reached up to 1.67M in total by the end of
2,000, among which 0.17M Chinese books were published before
1949 (covering more than 7000 types of thread-bound Chinese
books and 376 kinds of rare books), 1.251M after 1949, 0.153
are of foreign language books, 73,000 Chinese periodical bound
volume, 19,000 foreign language periodical bound volume and
4,000 non-book materials.
The library occupies an area of 7,800 square meters. Old library
was built in 1962 with an area of 6000 square meters, and
extension was finished in 1989 covering 1800 square meters.
It holds 12 reading rooms, with approximately 900 seats, and
is open 72.5hrs each week.
In order to make it more convenient, and increase utilization
rate, it adheres to the principle of "library-reading
first and borrowing second", and "keep more shelves
open with few closed", enhanced reading function, put
books and periodicals on open shelves. Furthermore, it offers
advisory services, gives open and selective course at various
levels on "basic knowledge to utilize library" and
"documents check and utilization", supplies recopy,
video materials to make their service positive and grow at
multi-level and modernization.
