University English Teaching & Research
Division undertakes all teaching work on university English
and post-graduate English. There is a total of 53 staff members,
including 48 full-time teachers, among whom, 15 are associate
professors, 17 lecturers, 23 young pedagogues aged below 35.
Most teachers hold senior professional titles or master's
degree, and they are on higher side in qualifications, attain
great attainments and have in-depth research on university
English teaching.
Capital Normal University attaches great importance to university
English teaching. Leaders of Capital Normal University, deans
of each department and heads of colleges and all teachers
give their support and concern to the construction and development
of University English Teaching & Research Division. The
division now can satisfy the needs of teaching and scientific
research, fitted with nine advanced language rooms and multi-media
rooms, 13,000 plus books and references, as well as abundant
video.
The division undertakes work on English teaching for 4000
plus graduates, 800 plus post-graduates and students that
take English as supplementary courses. In addition to required
courses for regular graduates and post-graduates, it offers
more than 40 selective courses for students, such as Practical
English, selected reading of newspaper and magazine, advanced
reading, advanced oral English, British and American culture
and British and American survey, which fully ensure quality-oriented
education. It also creates multiple dimension environment
for foreign language learning and practicing in various occasions
through secondary English learning classroom where colourful
and abundant entertainment and activities are held.
Through deepened reform on university English teaching and
aiming at improving students' overall quality and English
application ability, the division has re-laid down teaching
programme and teaching plan, finished overall planning for
learning and teaching, separated teaching from test, established
examination database and re-checked teaching materials, to
realize unification in teaching materials, simultaneous teaching
progress, examination and paper marking in order to improve
university English teaching quality,. It attaches great importance
to management over students. University English course turns
out to be the most popular course among students, with the
help of responsible personnel in each department and college
and teachers in charge of classes.
The teachers of the division put more emphasis on and are
active in teaching and scientific research, who hold regular
discussion on special subjects, and have published 90 plus
essays, over 100 treatises, teaching materials, reference
books and translations. Many projects above university-level
have been completed or are proceeding regarding scientific
research and course construction. Since its foundation, it
has obtained a number of awards, with one teacher receiving
award titled "Zengxianzi Education Fund", two getting
"Municipal-level Discipline Leader" and "Key
Young Teacher", and many wining titles of "Excellent
Lecturing Teacher", "Outstanding Teaching Achievements"
and "Advanced Person in Teaching".
