Trends in educational reorganization

Through years, Capital Normal University always holds on the tenet of "transforming education ideology and renovating education concepts" and pursues to the target of "cultivating students' innovation character, improving students' integrated quality, and enhancing the university's teaching quality", to actively carry out education and educational reorganization. The Outline of 2001~2005 Development Plan of Capital Normal University has further brought forward that the idea for educational reorganization, that is, to "strengthen basis, expand specialties, emphasize practice, cultivate abilities, and improve quality", shall be continuously persisted on.

Since 1992, the university has been keeping on carrying out school-level teaching research programs every one or two years. Meanwhile, we are also actively participating in the "21st century-oriented teaching contents and course system reform" organized by the Ministry of Education and the "higher education and educational reorganization" organized by Beijing Municipal Commission of Education. Up to now, we have established 4 ministry-level, 22 municipal-level (including 1 Beijing Municipal Tendering Project), and 132 school-level educational reorganization projects. All of these projects have greatly promoted the teaching quality of the university. To ensure the successful proceeding and accomplishment of these projects, the university allocates special funds and provides research funds every year. For the projects of school level or above, the university offers 1:1 matching fund supports. The fund allocated by the university for supporting educational reorganization project application and initialization in the recent years has amounted to more than 6 million yuan.

Presently, the research directions of the university's educational reorganization are mainly concentrated in research and exploitation of teaching pattern and talent cultivation schemes, promotion of credit system, integration of teaching contents and systems, reform of teaching methods and means, as well as trial and exploitation of bilingual teaching.

Based on the practical experiences accumulated in the 1999 Talent Cultivation Scheme, the university allocated a special fund of 2 million yuan in 2002 to carry out researches on "teacher's education and cultivation mode". In the first half of 2003, after sufficient discussion and research, the university passed four new and closely correlated talent cultivation schemes. Separately they are the Regular College Students Cultivation Scheme of Capital Normal University, the Reform Scheme of Teachers and Educational Talent Cultivation Mode, the Scheme for Further Implementing Credit System, and Establish Learning Organization to Promote Campus Culture Construction. These four schemes embody four characteristics, namely, strengthening of elementary education, enhancement of general knowledge education, promotion of credit system, and emphasis of characteristic cultivation.

Always paying much attention to the reform of teaching methods and means, the university advocates teaching modes in various forms, and encourages the teachers to actively apply "enlightening and exploring" teaching methods and increase research and integrated practice teaching, in a bid to embody the students' subject position in teaching, and to reach the effect of multi-lateral interaction between teachers and students and between students and students.

In order to support the teachers to apply modernized teaching means to reform class teaching, the university has established a school-wide network teaching assistant platform ---- Capital Normal University Network School, and several domestically top-ranking digital teaching simulation laboratories, opened the college English teaching website and the public computer courses teaching website, and started the multimedia teaching courseware and network course construction project. The university has made great progress in modernization of teaching means.

All the above achievements enable us to believe that, Capital Normal University will certainly become a top-ranking teaching & research integrated normal university of the country by the end of the 10th five-year plan.
