Capital Normal University, one of 23 Senior Schools, which has classes for foreign abroad students’ education, was confirmed by China States Council in 1965.
College of International Education with Capital Normal University carries out Chinese language teaching programs for foreigners at various levels and in various forms. There is master's degree for “linguistics and application linguistics" in high-level education with record of formal schooling. Currently, there are two research directions, i.e. theoretical linguistics and Chinese language teaching for foreigners, tutors of which are all that of postgraduate candidates.

As to undergraduate education, in 1991, the Ministry of Education approved the university to confer bachelor’s degree for Chinese Linguistics & Literature. The college is one of the few universities confers degrees among more than 300 universities in China, which receive foreign students. There are already about a quarter of its graduates that continue their graduate and postgraduate study in the university or other universities of China. There also exist flexible forms of training courses for students to improve their competence in Chinese language.
